DFI -Core Business Agenda, Online Term 3 Tuesday Cohort: 2022

 Kia ora! My name is Alka Rani. I am a Science and Chemistry teacher in Tamaki college. My school's focus is to enable teachers digitally strong so that they can use the every new technology in their teaching and learning process. As part of this initiative, I too have got an amazing opportunity to attend the Digital Fluency Intensive course. 

Today's class was started by doing Karakia by Vicki Archer, followed by the Introduction of the DFI facilitators. We were put in the different digital bubbles so that our mentors could help and guide us wherever we needed.

There were four objectives defined in today's session which were DFI deep dive, Chalk and Talk, Explore and levelling.

Amy Williams introduced Chrome browser software application for assessing information from web. As part of exercise, we setup profile and changed profile picture.



I also updated my profile pictures in Gmail account.

Deep Dive in Google Groups- I learned about the Google groups. These are the organizational groups and a group email id is setup in which email id's of the people can be added/removed by group admins. It is a great way to communicate and find info and is a nice way to keeping info and communication. People notified when they are added in google group when you are added to google group its set up.
I got to know that I am part of eleven groups:)

Why to use or advocate Google groups:  
1. One email address to whole group and adding of members would not impact the email address.
2. There is a privacy of each individual.
3. Easy place to share resources within the group.
4. Admins can can directly add members to the group without sending invitation.
5. Admins can grant admin access to other members as well. 
 




Working on Google Docs
I learned to put initials at the beginning of the doc. I copied  one text and paste without formatting it
and we can control sharing permissions as well. I was amazed by the use of Voice tool that was completely new to me and I found it very helpful tool where voice can be converted to text very easily. 

Create space using Google Docs 

I made a document using Google doc, in which I first inserted a table and then changed the color of the page and used explore button to attach pictures and learned on how to merge cells and add row up and below. I really liked the idea of using google doc for whole class as a group where all students can contribute their ideas. 
Overall that was an amazing sessions with lots of information that I can use in my classroom for learning.
